We had a great time on Tuesday evening, March 16th. The Alan Munde Trio, aka the Elliott Rogers Trio, came through town and played at the Harwood Art Center. The Adobes played a short warm-up set. Elliott was the only vocalist of the trio, but you don’t need more than that. Nate Lee was impressive on fiddle, and Alan Munde was spectacular. I’m always struck with Elliott’s guitar work, clean and powerful.

The Cheap Shots are back in business; we had a practice last week! We spent the first couple of hours on tunes we won’t be playing anywhere and couldn’t explain to each other, though plenty of energy was expended in the effort. This is our normal practice routine; then we settle down and get some tunes under control, and then it’s late.

I had a nice run of solo gigs last summer and fall including the Tijeras Arts Market and the singer/songwriter stage at the Albuquerque Folk Festival. It always takes me a while to get back to my own songs and playing solo, but it’s worth it to keep them in mind. I’ll be playing again solo in May at Corrales Growers’ Market and the ABQ Sunport (see calendar.)

When I write a song it almost always changes after I think it’s finished because I learn a lot by performing it, what words are not quite right, what phrases can be compacted, what words can be left out, and so on. If I compare the way I perform a song to the written version in my notebook I almost always find it has been smoothing out and improving.

The Adobe Brothers suffered a severe loss recently with the death of Tim DeYoung, mandolin and guitar player, vocalist, and an open, friendly, entertaining guy.

We had a great evening on Tuesday, March 16. The Alan Munde Trio, AKA the Elliott Rogers Trio, came through town on their way to Arizona and on to California. We rented the big south room at the Harwood Art Center and filled it. The Adobes played a short warm-up set. It was a kick to see and hear Elliott, Nate Lee and Alan Munde. Our eternal thanks to Judy Muldawer for her help in promoting this lavish affair.
